Built up brass lettering for the Melba at the Savoy London

Working with the world’s leading design agencies to help refresh an international icon

In spring 2015, the Savoy opened their new gourmet take away coffee and cake counter – the Melba – located at the corner of Savoy Court on the Strand. This jaw-dropping new food outlet was designed by interior design consultancy, Dolman-Bowles (known for redesigning Selfridges and Fenwick) and graphic design agency, Pentagram, commonly celebrated as the most influential design studio in the world.

This came as a development from their significant £220 million refurbishment and restoration of the iconic Savoy Hotel in 2010.

A precise brief calls for precisely considered signage

We were fortunate to be invited by the Savoy management team to supply the signage for the Melba.

The Savoy’s brief to us was to collaborate with their design partners Pentagram and Dolman-Bowles to ensure that their creative vision was realised without any compromise.

Taking strict direction from Dolman-Bowles and Pentagram, we worked with them to realise their design – matching their material, construction and colour specifications.

Golden brass: synonymous with art deco

As such, we were pleased to work with some of the world’s leading creative businesses to help reinvigorate an international icon.

Inspired by The Savoy’s timeless art deco and Edwardian style, we crafted a elegant built-up brass letter store front sign and high gloss, gold leaf projecting sign.
